Why Should We All Read Dr Seuss

March 13, 2018 By Dawn Burdett

When it comes to being educational, entertaining, and motivational, Dr. Seuss is truly a master. From Green Eggs and Ham to Oh, The Places You’ll Go, Dr. Seuss books are silly, optimistic adventures for children of all ages. However, his reach goes beyond only children, as many adults still enjoy reading his books, whether on their own or with their kids. His clever rhymes and positive attitude provide a great form of entertainment for us all. For those who have never read Dr. Seuss or who haven’t picked up one of his books in a while, consider these reasons why we all should be reading his material.

The Lessons are Universal

Even in his simpler books, there are many lessons to be learned. Dr. Seuss provides his readers with goofy stories that ultimately teach us to believe in ourselves and treat each other with respect. Because he teaches these lessons in a fun way using hilarious, witty language, kids get to laugh throughout the story but still walk away with a better understanding of the world. For adults, it can be a simple refresher about how we should act. Sometimes we get caught up with the problems in life, but Dr. Seuss can teach us to take a breath of fresh air and see the world for what it is.

Dr. Seuss Books are Fun to Read Aloud

Because of the silly language and fantastic rhyme schemes, Dr. Seuss stories are a blast to read out loud. Parents reading to their infants can help promote development in several areas of the brain as well as better prepare them when the time comes for them to learn to read. When kids read aloud, their parents can help them with the words. Because the books are entertaining and provide plenty of laughs, parents and children can enjoy their time together reading out loud rather than becoming frustrated at difficult words.

Most of all, they’re fun!

Come on, what’s better than a talking cat wearing a goofy hat or a giant elephant protecting an entire planet of living Whos? No matter how silly some of the stories may start out, there is plenty of fun to be had throughout them as Dr. Seuss combines small conflicts with funny, loveable characters who we always want to root for. The laughs never stop throughout the books, even when characters like the Grinch are comically attempting to carry out their evil plans. The stories may not be very long, but they provide everything you need from a good book.

Dr. Seuss is a fun-loving wordsmith who has created a large library of engaging stories that are enjoyable for both kids and adults. If you are looking for something to read, a Dr. Seuss book is almost always an excellent choice, and there are many reasons to share them with your friends and family. From the day you’re born, it’s likely that you’ll be exposed to Dr. Seuss’ stories, and your life will undoubtedly be enriched by them.
